Golden Hind
From the description given by David Reath and Silvia Saunders, this appears to be a distinctive Saunders peony. The photo of the bud was taken by me at the Scott Arboretum in 2017. They later donated a plant to the Heartland Peony Society and I was fortunate to win it at their auction. My plant first bloomed in 2021.
William Gratwick who received many of the Saundes plants thought this one was a keeper. It can be confused with ‘Damask ‘but ‘Damask’ has a cream sheath while ‘Golden Hind’ has a lilac or mauve sheath.
‘Golden Hind’ is in the lineage of ‘Helios’ (Daphnis, 1977).
