Cardinal’s Robe

The flowers are held well above the foliage on strong stems. It had a few crooked stems in 2020. It is being evaluated for the Award of Landscape Merit by APS ALM judges.

Flower: Color: brilliant “cardinal” red (Wister says “orange tinge”)
Form: single, two rows of petals, slightly crinkled
Blooms: Week 4 or 5
Carpels: 2-4, very pale green (Wister says “white”, not on mine)
Stigmas: rose pink
Disc: white
Stamens: filaments yellow
Plant: Habit: upright bush
Foliage color: medium green
Foliage form: narrow pointed leaves
Height: 26″ (reported); 29″ in 2021
